Flying Forward 2020 is a 3-year collaborative research project. We are developing a new Urban Air Mobility (UAM) ecosystem by incorporating UAM within the geospatial data infrastructure of cities.

Mission and Vision

The FF2020 consortium aims to solve current UAM challenges by collaborating with different players globally. Additionally, while testing our solutions in Living Labs, we can open a dialogue with our end-users and citizens to help us improve upon our processes and results.

Ultimately, we want to have a positive and lasting impact on the quality of life of European citizens. We firmly believe that the way forward lies in creating sustainable partnerships and we welcome you to join us on our wonderful journey. Let’s keep flying forward together!

The main planned activities:

FF2020 is creating an entire state of the art geospatial UAM ecosystem, which includes:

  • A governance model and framework
  • A regulatory framework
  • A geospatial digital infrastructure
  • A Digital Toolbox
  • An Identity of Things (IDoT) scheme
  • Interoperability frameworks

To validate our solutions and approach, we carry out 10 demonstrations in 5 Living Labs across Europe: Eindhoven, Milan, Tartu, Oulu, Zaragoza. The Living Lab partners will be able to specify their needs and requirements to ensure compliance with regulations, in terms of non-functional properties, safety, tools and processes.

Desired outcome:

  1. Developing appropriate and upscalable infrastructure
  2. Facilitate the creation and implementation of drone regulations
  3. Raising awareness of UAM to increase societal acceptance
  4. Integrate stakeholder value chain solutions for UAM implementation and market uptake

Project partners: The consortium involves 12 partners from 7 countries and several associated partners involved in specific activities.

Programme: Flying Forward 2020 is funded by the European Union H2020 Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement No.101006828

Project implementation period: Project will be implemented from December 2020 to November 2023
