Game Camp Visby 2018

Game Camp Visby 2018 is an international 48h bootcamp for game developers from Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Sweden. It will be held during October 12-14 in Visby, modern day UNESCO world Heritage site, located on the Gotland island in Sweden.

During the Game Camp, the participants are expected to focus on developing the business side of a cross-border game studio and pitch their business idea to a distinguished jury of game industry veterans. The best teams will be awarded awesome prizes by event hosts and partners. The winning team will receive up to 10.000€, 2nd place 6.000€ and 3rd place 4.000€ worth of financial support to start a new game company.

The organisers have chosen more than 60 participants based on experience and skills, taking into account the country and skill balance. The cross-border teams with existing game prototypes will have the opportunity to focus on developing their business model and investor pitch as well as establish a roadmap to launch a game to the market. “We have had 3 international hackathons since spring 2017, that have helped to form more than 10 strong teams. After the Visby camp the companies will have a chance to take part in mentor program that will hopefully result in new games being launched next year,” added Henri Hanson, project manager in Tartu Science Park.

Game Camp lead partner Teemu Saarelainen from Cursor said, “Visby Game Camp is a great opportunity for establishing a cross-border team with a clear aim to launch a new game and build a foundation for a successful game studio. It is also an event to meet new people within the industry, show off skills and learn about what it takes to create a sustainable business. Our mentoring program has already supported several international teams established during our events in Tallinn and Riga in 2017 and Kotka in 2018. The strongest teams will have an opportunity to travel and pitch their business at the most important event for game developers – GDC, held in March 18-22 in San Francisco, USA.”

Game Camps is an international initiative to strengthen cross-border ties between the game industries of Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Sweden. The main goal is to help establish at least 10 cross-border game companies over the next few years, working with no less than 240 aspiring game developers. It is also a great opportunity to share ideas, portfolios and game concepts with the industry experts.

Game Camps is co-financed by the EU INTERREG Central Baltic programme.
